Hey there, welcome back!
Let's talk about waiting, shall we?
Personally, I'm not a fan. I'm the type of person who likes to get things done once I've figured out the path to take. Waiting on others to accomplish what I need? Ugh, the struggle is real! I'm like a human pendulum; once I get going, there's no stopping me!
So let's be honest, waiting on the Lord is easier said than done, right? (I can almost hear you chuckling in agreement!) Hence the song 'Nitangoja by Kanji Mbugua'.
"Nitangoja" means "I will wait" in Swahili.
As the song suggests in its chorus, waiting requires us to take our concerns to the Lord. It's a reminder that the Lord is our hope, strength, and refuge. He won't leave us hanging, as promised in His Word. He remains faithful in everything. So, we wait on the Lord.
I was x years old when I learned the lesson of waiting on the Lord. Boy, oh boy, connecting those dots took me a while. Before that, I would fuss, get anxious, and worry. I'd lose sleep and focus. Some days, God got me through it all; other days, I just had to wait it out. And let me tell you, the waiting days were no picnic. Sometimes, I'd even conclude that what I was asking for wasn't in God's plan. And in my less mature days, I'd take matters into my own hands.
Looking back, I've learned some valuable lessons through waiting. I impatiently rushed into a marriage without waiting on the Lord's guidance. It didn't end well, and I have seen firsthand the consequences of not trusting God's timing.
But you know what? I've also experienced the incredible wisdom in waiting. For instance, I have waited almost five years to get another job. Yes, there were moments when I fussed with the Lord during that wait. However, because of my previous mistakes, I asked God to help me learn the lesson of waiting in this new season. And I've come to realize that the waiting period is a unique opportunity to grow closer to God. It's a time to catch, strengthen, and prepare ourselves for what's next. I mean, some folks in the Bible had to wait for years before seeing their prayers answered!
In my five-year hiatus from employment, God has given me much-needed rest and has provided for my needs in miraculous ways through the help of others. He's shown me who's for me and who's against me. This time off has also allowed me to invest in my family and study the Bible—answering a prayer I've had for a long time. I've caught up on sleep—so much sleep! I've traveled, explored my artistic side, experienced entrepreneurship and even started this blog.
So, my friend, I encourage you to wait upon the Lord. In the lyrics of 'While I'm Waiting' by Travis Green, you'll grow stronger, your faith will rise, and you'll get through each moment—one day at a time.
The chorus lyrics are taken from Isaiah 40:31 - those who wait upon the Lord will renew their strength. They'll soar like eagles, run without becoming weary, walk without fainting. Why? Because the Lord sustains us during the waiting period—every step of the way.
If I believe Christ is coming back, a day I don't know about but eagerly anticipate, then surely I can patiently wait for earthly needs knowing that God's timing is perfect.
If I truly trust the Lord, then I must trust Him to know what's right for me at any given time. I have to trust Him even when I don't understand a thing, when I can't see past my own nose, and when everything around me feels like sinking sand. The Lord's ways are not our own, and His timing isn't always aligned with ours.
Both of the songs mentioned here have been a tremendous source of encouragement for me. I pray that they will uplift and inspire you too.
Stay tuned, stay blessed!
Harmoniously yours!
