Into the Twilight

I was just listening to music while working — nothing unusual. Then suddenly, this song comes on that stops me mid-keystroke. The beat? Immaculate. You can’t help but nod your head and maybe even throw in a little shoulder bop.
At first, it was just the rhythm that pulled me in. But then I caught a line in the lyrics about depending on God, especially as you grow older — and just like that, I was all ears. It hit a little close to home. I thought, Hey… that sounds like me! So naturally, I went down the rabbit hole to figure out what this song was really saying.
And wow. It spoke straight to my heart — and surprisingly, straight to the faith journeys of some incredible women I recently met..
God has a funny way of planting us in the company of people we didn’t know we needed. For me, that’s been the amazing, silver-haired saints in my Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) group, where I am the youngest. These are women who have lived: done life, raised children, buried loved ones, become grandmas and great-aunts. Some are living simply, some are battling health issues, yet they all radiate this calm strength and unwavering hope.
They know who they are in Christ. They’ve made peace with life - where it’s taken them, what it’s handed them, and they’re content to rest in the goodness of God and look forward to eternal rest with Him.
I wondered at first why I was paired with women old enough to be my aunts, my mom, or even my grandmother. But I’ve come to see it as a gift, like God was giving me a sneak peek into what could be if I keep walking closely with Him. A kind of holy glimpse into my own twilight years.
These women aren’t in a hurry. They wait on the Lord. They speak of their hopes and dreams for their families with quiet faith. They aren’t striving, they’re trusting. It’s like they've moved into a season of deep surrender, and I find myself longing for that same sense of rooted peace.
So, as this song played and echoed those very things, I couldn’t help but smile and think, There’s a song for this, too? And it gets better.
I found myself reaching for a few songs that have traveled with me through the years. One of them is "One Day at a Time", a song I first clung to when I was 18 (my mom still reminds me of that). The other is "Knowing You, Jesus". These are more than just melodies, they are declarations. And they’ve become part of my prayer life.
Because as I move toward the later chapters of life, I want to grow old with Jesus — not just knowing about Him, but walking closely with Him. I want to lean on Him more, wait on Him more, rest in Him fully. The kind of resting that isn’t lazy or passive, but the kind that’s full of trust, the kind that says, “You’ve got me, Lord, no matter what comes.” Which brings me to one of my favorite promises in Scripture:
“Those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” — Isaiah 40:31
It’s a verse I’ve known for years, but lately, it’s taken on a whole new meaning. I see it being lived out in the women God has placed around me. They are walking, flying, and sometimes even dancing in the strength of the Lord despite what life has thrown at them.
So wherever you are on your faith journey, whether you’re just getting started, somewhere in the messy middle, or cruising into your own twilight years, take heart. God’s promises still hold. His strength is real. And His presence? Absolutely everything.
Turns out, there really is a song for that!
Stay tuned, stay blessed!
Harmoniously yours!
